RAC Short Term Breakdown Cover is a policy that covers a driver or vehicle for a limited period and can be added to your Temporary Car Insurance. It could be just for a single day, or for several days. It’s the ideal solution if you don’t need an annual policy, but want to be covered for breakdowns alongside your insurance.
Short-term breakdown cover includes:
Roadside assistance 1/4 of a mile or more away from your home address
Recovery for up to 8 people and your car to any single destination within the UK
Onward Travel benefits to keep you on the move whilst your vehicle is being fixed: Replacement car; overnight accommodation or alternative transport
Two levels of cover
When you purchase a Temporary Car Insurance policy, you can choose from two levels of RAC Breakdown cover:

Optional cover for foreign use is available at an additional premium, should you wish to drive your car on the continent of Europe (see policy wording for territorial limits).
The following restrictions apply:

Cover is only available for cars registered in the UK

Q. Can I add RAC Breakdown cover to my temporary car insurance policy?
Yes, you can add short term breakdown to cover you for the duration of your policy. You’ll get all the benefits of our RAC Breakdown cover including: Roadside Assistance, Recovery for up to 8 people and your car to any single destination in the UK, and Onward Travel benefits such as a replacement car, overnight accommodation or alternative transport.
Just make sure you add RAC Breakdown cover when you purchase an RAC Temporary Car Insurance policy online.
Q. Does temporary insurance cover business use?
Yes, it does, providing you are not transporting goods or people for hire or reward (for example, a taxi service or courier).
Our cover is perfect if you’re insuring a car for a few days away at another office or business conference. Alternatively, if you only travel for business now and then, our short term car insurance could be more cost effective then adding business cover on your annual car insurance policy.
Q. Can I use temporary insurance to drive in Europe?
If you purchase our additional cover for Europe, you can. Journeys must start and finish within Great Britain, Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man, and cover is only available for cars registered in the UK.
